NICU Design Inspiration

We are working with Athens Regional Medical Center in conglomeration with the Lukas' Fund (www.lukasfund.org) to update an existing hospital room for parents with an infant in the NICU. The existing space is around 140 sq.ft. and we cannot paint or remove the wallpaper border. After hours upon hours of weighing the possible solutions for covering the border, I decided to simply embrace it. (More posts to follow in the design development phase!)

Design Inspiration Solution

Harrison Bathroom Renovation

Existing

Design Statement:

As an original 1980’s design, the existing Harrison Master Bathroom bears dated vanity lighting, brass fixtures, green carpet, laminate flooring, floral wall paper, a blue tile surround for a garden tub, poor storage, and a small shower system. The goal of this renovation is to enliven the space and bring it up to date with a classic, timeless design that adds visual appeal as well as clean functionality. The new plan promises to open up the space for maximum comfort while still providing the client with optimal storage.

Double doors will open to a large linen closet as deep drawers maximize efficiency between the two sinks. The fresh white countertops will stand at a comfortable level for the Harrison’s tall statures while a lowered vanity counter and drawer system may be used while seated. Relaxation beckons from the pedestal tub poised under a decorative, softly lit chandelier. Tiled in ivory with rectilinear accents emulating a cascading waterfall, the large shower is a refreshing place to begin the day. Polished chrome fixtures and hardware along with new lighting transform the bathroom into a pristine sanctuary. The dark cabinetry and ebony planked flooring combined with the tranquil sage blue walls bring warmth and soothe the soul.

Hand Renderings

These are a few of my favorite hand rendered objects. I enjoy looking at things and drawing them in light of what I see, not what I think I see.

Reilley Basement Renovation

Our client, Jack Reilley, has a love for Mediterranean and Spanish influences and a strong conviction for sustainable living. The basement design focuses on an open space plan that features a social living space,  home office, guest bedroom, TV entertainment room and a bathroom. Here is a taste of the design aesthetic we are going for:

My Heroes of Summer 2010

Meet my friends from Atlanta Sports Medicine. These beautiful people have been a huge   support system during my recovery from major knee surgery. They are instruments   infusing joy, laughter and life-giving challenge into my soul. What a blessing overload!

Lamp Design Project

I literally spent hours walking up and down the isles of Home Depot searching for materials that I could possibly use to construct a lamp. I happily settled on these mismatched water pipes that conveniently screw together perfectly to form this H shape. The lamp shade is reclaimed and repaired from its previously damaged state and lined with a fantastic snake skin paper.

Paintings

All of my paintings are developed with a specific room in mind.  I enjoy getting to know people and their living spaces and designing a painting solution that meets the aesthetic needs of a room.
